Larry Williams is one of six children born to the late Albert and
Mae Jessie Williams. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee and
graduated from Blake High School in Tampa, Florida and from the
Florida School of Preaching in Lakeland, FL. He earned a Bachelor
of Science degree and a Master’s degree from Abilene Christian
University in Abilene, Texas. He also earned a Master’s degree in
Mental Health Counseling from Webster University in Sarasota,
Florida. He completed the Doctoral Program (ABD) in Psychology
and Mental Health at Argosy University in Sarasota.
At age 16, Brother Williams obeyed the gospel of Christ under the
teaching of Brother Taylor in Mt. Dora, Florida. Shortly after
obeying the gospel, he was motivated and encouraged by various
ministers to preach and serve. Since 1965, he has been preparing
and dedicating himself to the ministry of the gospel of Christ.
Brother Williams labored with the Cleveland Avenue Church of
Christ in Columbus, Ohio, and the Holt Street Church of Christ in
Montgomery, AL. His work as the full-time minister at the 201
Church of Christ congregation began in 1988. Under his leadership,
the work at the 201 congregation has been progressing and
developing steadily and positively. For five years, he delivered
the gospel via the WWPR 1490 radio. He served as host minister for the 2002 and 2014 Florida State Lectureships and established the annual Manasota Lectureship, hosted by the 201 Church of Christ each year in July. In addition, he founded MLK Ministries, Inc., whose food bank program currently feeds 200+ local families each week.
He is supported and encouraged through his servanthood by his wife Linda, who he has been married to since 1968. They are the proud parents of five lovely children: Frances Shaw, Lawrence, Twyla, Latorence and Taj. They have 12 grandchildren, six great-grands, one son-in-law and two daughters-in-law.
In addition to his church ministry, Brother Williams has worked as Manager at Supreme Life Company, Corrections Officer at New Jersey State Prison, Aide at Happy Haven Nursing Home, Chaplain at three fire departments in Manatee County and Mental Health Counselor at Centerstone Behavior Health Systems. During his tenure at the 201 Church of Christ, he and Sister Williams have dedicated their lives to promoting good mental health, and most of all, spirituality through the Gospel of Christ
